Phoenix Shaving’s Coop takes its inspiration from Joop! Homme, but what makes it interesting is not nostalgia alone. The scent sits somewhere between the bold masculine power fragrances of the late 1980s and the brighter, sweeter direction men’s fragrance would take in the 1990s. It has the structure and depth of a classic fougère-adjacent scent, but trades the usual lavender-and-oakmoss feel for heliotrope, patchouli, tonka, vetiver, and tobacco, creating a profile that is powdery, earthy, warm, and unmistakably masculine.

What keeps Coop from feeling dated is its contrast. Mandarin orange and orange blossom bring lift and brightness, while honey, vanilla, cinnamon, jasmine, and tobacco add sweetness, spice, creaminess, and darker depth. Phoenix preserves the big projection and long-lasting presence of the original inspiration, but with a little restraint Coop becomes less of an 80s power blast and more of a rich bouquet balancing juicy brightness, floral softness, warm sweetness, spice, and masculine gravity.
