Strike Gold Shave
Strike Gold Shave is the passion project of Frank Misa, a retired police officer and firefighter who began professionally honing straight razors in 2007 and later expanded into a full line of shave soaps, aftershaves, and eaux de parfum. The fragrance catalog blends original compositions with scents inspired by popular—and often discontinued—men’s colognes. Notable collaborations include releases with Shave Dad (Jelly Rings, Spumoni, Commando, Knock Out), Pasteur Pharmacy (The Big Apple), First Line Shave (Washington), and Tobin’s Throwbacks (Tobin Fetters; Lewis & Clark). Production has included in-house batches as well as contract manufacturing by Jennifer Marting (Mason Boutique/Decadent Bubbles) and later Monica Gillam of Van Yulay.
Scent Description
Inspired by Parfum de Marly's Pegasus Exclusif, Air Force One is a titillating Oriental Woody fragrance with nuances of a classic fougère. Its base displays the classic calling cards of an Oriental blend—amber and vanilla—which is steered into the woody subcategory by the creamy smokiness of sandalwood, oud, and guaiac wood. Spicy warmth from pink pepper and cardamom provide additional hallmarks of an Oriental. However, the heart of the bouquet is deeply floral, with heady contributions from lavender, jasmine, and geranium—a fougère-esque motif—reinforced by heliotrope and almond, mimicking the sweetness of tonka. This deliberate fusing of genres gives Air Force One its singular radiance and depth. Its personality is neither spicy nor green, but an effervescent blend that has one foot in heritage and one in the present. While taking cues from an earlier time of gentlemanly sophistication, it remains young and energetic—restrained enough for the office, yet alluring enough for an evening out.
