Mint Cherry Barbershop

Adopted Acres

Adopted Acres was founded in 2024 by Doug & Cara Layne in Asheville Ohio, where Doug uses tallow from the family farm where they have over 1,000 acres and an Angus beef cattle herd to make his soap. Doug is a wet shaving fanatic who dreamed of making his own soaps and splashes. The fragrances are all original and in addition to Cara the couple's five children help run the show.

Mint Cherry Barbershop

Scent Description

Doug Layne at Adopted Acres has a flare for weaving complex collections of scent notes into cohesive and well-balanced fragrances with exquisite depth. From the name alone, one would expect Mint Cherry Barbershop to be a farely straightforward affair, primarily cherry and mint, and possibly evoking images of your favorite tub of ice cream. However the scent is anything but simple, with a rich, floral and fruity bouqet which is lush, boozy, and ethereal, but remains masculine and inviting. For those who enjoy sweeter scents, it's a truly inspired take on the classic barbershop genre which is a great daytime fragrance for almost any occassion.

Base Description

The Adopted Acres soap base creates a yogurty lather, which is rich, moist and spreads easily. The formula contains numerous beneficial ingredients, notably Bentonite Clay, Aloe Vera, Vitamin E,

Avocado Oil, and Tussah Silk. Density is on the higher end of the spectrum which provides ample cushion and good stability. The addition of Glycerin also makes slickness above average. Overall, a high performing base whose quality ingredients make for a soothing and well-hydrated post-shave feel.

This is my favorite Adopted Acres soap. Or, at,least it was. I don’t know what their plans are regarding the new base. But when this was purchased, it was the old base. Doug has an amazing ability to weave scents that are very pleasant into a barbershop framework. This is one of them. The lather is dense, slick and protective. If you are a straight shaver you know how important that is. Inadequacies are readily exposed with a straight razor. The old soap base did not disappoint. And the scent somehow brings me back to a well air conditioned barbershop on a summer day with mint and cherry running the show. The lather is top notch. It’s exactly what you wanted it to be. Not overly airy or thin. The new base, not as good. The new base is an oddly soft product that whips up too much air. Soap and water aid in making a good lather. Air does nothing but dilute it. Give me the old base all day long.
