Chicago Grooming's Montrose Beach Is Candied Tropical Elegance

Montrose Beach is a joyous burst of sun-drenched fun. The opening is strikingly reminiscent of sugar-crusted dried pineapple: the chewy, intensely fruity kind you might buy in a candy store, sticky with sweetness and almost impossible to resist. Interestingly, pineapple is not listed among the fragrance notes. Instead, the effect seems to be coaxed from the composition through a clever interplay of coconut, eucalyptus, and florals. The dried coconut provides the tropical foundation, while eucalyptus contributes a cool, camphorous brightness that can read almost like sharp green fruit. Blended together, they create a tangy, prickly zing that feels unmistakably pineapple-like. Jasmine adds a ripe tropical facet, while carnation gives the accord a further lift.

Yet Montrose Beach never collapses into syrup or simple sweetness. Vetiver and driftwood dry the composition down, adding texture, restraint, and a multi-layered sense of craftsmanship. The sea salt and seaweed are subtle, almost imperceptible at first, but they linger in the background and reinforce the imagery of sandy beaches, warm skin, and holiday sunsets. The result is one of the most intriguing summer scents ShaveSplash has reviewed. ShaveSplash is admittedly partial to coconut accords, which are notoriously tricky to blend and rarely executed this well, but Montrose Beach stands out for more than that. It is original, transportive, and remarkably effective at evoking tropical fun and ease while still feeling sophisticated and complex. ShaveSplash views Montrose Beach as a masterwork and a must-own summer scent for the wet shaving enthusiast.
